Writing a Capstone Committee Member Synopsis

Shortly following each Committee Member & Professional Contact critique, each student  must write and submit a thorough synopsis about their individual meetings.   This must include the following: i. Student Name ii. Committee Member name or Professional Contact name iii. Synopsis of critique Date of critique Location of critique Time of critique (beginning and end) Complete a 500 word review of the Committee Member’s critique. Snap Shot of Course

The student's written work  and  creative production throughout the Capstone project  is an evolutionary process of thinking for each Senior student.  Making and writing go hand in hand in all studio and design practice.   Research is an expectation of all art and design students throughout their academic careers and ongoing in their professional practice.    Writing is another way of investigating and communicating one’s expressive voice, translating visual ideas into textual language.   It is expected that the year long Capstone project will lead the student into depth full  research  and  studio activity.  Thoughtful and continual activity of the student’s production will be graded for content, as well as the Capstone & studio works in progress.  Throughout the semester, students will be writing a number of ‘units’ towards their Capstone  project, incorporating thorough research, numerous edits and t...

David Levi-Strauss: The Documentary Debate: Aesthetic or Anaesthetic? Taken from Between and Wolf Essays on Art and Politics (2010) [...] The September 9, 1991 issue of the New Yorker carried an article by Ingrid Sischy, titled “Good Intentions,” on the work of Brazilian photographer Sebastiao Salgado. Sischy upbraids Salgado for being too popular and too successful, and also for being too “uncompromisingly serious” and “weighty”; for being opportunistic and self-aggrandizing, and also too idealistic; for being too spiritual, and also for being “kitschy” and “schmaltzy.” But Sischy’s real complaint about Salgado’s photographs is that they threaten the boundary between aesthetics and politics.
